SRINAGAR, Feb 10: "Maqbool Ham Sab Ka Hai" this was the title of the
seminar organised by Mirwaiz faction of Hurriyat Conference to pay rich
tributes to Shaheed Mohammad Maqbool Butt a day before his 24th
martyrdom anniversary. Maqbool Butt was hanged in Tihar Jail in 1984.
On this occasion, it was emphasised that all the freedom-loving
organisations should get united to pursue the goal of freedom for
Kashmir.
Those who spoke during the seminar said that it was due to Shaheed
Maqbool Butt that the Kashmir dispute has now come to the centre-stage.
They said that Butt devoted his whole life to the cause of freedom for
the Kashmiri nation and sowed the seeds of freedom struggle with
immense zeal and zest.
"If the Kashmir issue has now reached to all the forums and
institutions of the world, it is due to the tremendous work of Shaheed
Maqbool Butt who spared no efforts to make sure that Kashmir issue
assumes international importance. We the Kashmiris owe our gratitude to
this son of soil for making it happen", said the Hurriyat leaders who
spoke on the occasion.
Senior separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, who recently joined Mirwaiz
Hurriyat as part of the efforts to get separatist leadership united,
said that the best way of paying tributes to Shaheed Maqbool Bhat was
that all the freedom-loving organisations should get united to achieve
the right of self-determination.
"It is very difficult to commemorate the martyrdom anniversaries of all
the 4.5 lakh martyrs; therefore it would be ideal for the separatist
leadership to fix a single date for commemorating the martyrdom of all
these martyrs. this will be the greatest tribute to all of them and it
will also be a reflection of a united nation," Shah stressed.
Speaking on the occasion, Bar Association president, Nazir Ahmad Ronga,
who according to a Hurriyat spokesman was specially invited to attend
the Seminar, said that there was no alternative except getting united
if Kashmiris wanted to achieve their goal. He also called for the need
to rid the society of the evils and stopping the cultural invasion from
outside.
In his presidential remarks, the acting chairman of Mirwaiz Hurriyat,
Moulana Abbass Ansari said that the sacrifices of the people never go
waste. Paying rich tributes to Shaheed Maqbool Bhat, he said that he is
still present among us because of the examples of valour and bravery he
has set. Others who spoke on the occasion, included: Nayeem Ahmad Khan,
Advocate Mohammad Ashraf Lone, Zaffar Akbar, Dr Hubbi and Saleem
Geelani.
Meanwhile a Hurriyat spokesman today condemned the atrocities of
security forces on people following the killing of a miltyant in
Noorporah Tral. He said that some Hurriyat leaders including Javeed
Ahmad Mir visited the locality today and offered condolences to the
bereaved family and commiserations to those who were beaten up the
security forces.
