JKLF calls for shutdown on Feb 11 Srinagar, February 03 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has called for a complete strike on the occasion of the 24th martyrdom anniversary of Kashmiri liberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt on February 11. Maqbool Butt was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 11, 1984.
Despite Kashmiris’ repeated pleas to Indian government to shift remains of the martyred leader to his ancestral land, New Delhi has refused to heed such calls. In a statement issued here, a JKLF spokesman said that the appeal for the strike was made by the JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik while addressing a meeting of party workers and leaders held at the party headquarters at Rajbagh, Srinagar.
Yasin Malik said that Maqbool Butt preferred death over surrendering before the oppressor and sacrificed his life defending Kashmiris’ cause. On February 10, the JKLF will hold Quran Khawani in Srinagar and other districts of the occupied valley for Shaheed Maqbool. The JKLF spokesperson said that on February 11, meetings would be held in Muzaffarabad, Rawalpindi, London and other cities to pay homage to the martyred leader.
